LET IT NEVER BE SAID…BY A TRUE WARRIOR

Filed under: Quotes, Veews, Veotry — by Vee @ 9:32 am

It is amazing what you find when you look through old archives of written paraphernalia. But before I share with you what I found I will tell you a short story.

As of last year one of my dear friends had no idea what fate and potential held for him in the realm of Spoken Word. I remember him poohooing my attempts to introduce him to this genre of art. We had after all delved into the world of dance & film together… I thought this is one more thing to try out. A year later this young man has discovered himself in poetry by writing and performing the hell out of great works like the one I’m going to post here.

I could pat myself on the back for the small part played in this segment of self discovery but the accolades must go to the Lord. For it is through Him that I found a great friend in this inspiring young man and shared both funny & sad moments. The poem below is a testament of the Christian struggle, one that I see my friend go through everyday; the very same struggle that I gave up on for a much wider and easier road. A struggle that I intend to return to and only through watching this warrior, will I  have the guidance towards the right path… again.

Thanks friend.

LET IT NEVER BE SAID
Let it never be said that this warrior sold out
Coz to sell out is to be bought
And to be bought is to be owned
And to be owned is to cease to be yours
And cease to be you
And I’m not you, I’m me
To deprive this world of me
Is to shortchange the world, and you, and me
And in denying you me, I deny you He
And this gift
That He gave me
that the world may be drawn closer to the Holy Man they denied
The Savior that died
So that me doesn’t have to
In the first place

Let it never be said that this warrior sold out
That he let go of his Paternal ties
For trophies that dazzled his eyes
Riding on hype and temporary highs
Not realizing he’s bastardizing
Everything he idolized
In the first place

Let it never be said that this warrior sold out
That he cast a glance at his humble armor
And despised it
Look at the stone tablet of his ideals
And chastised it
Recognized the spirit within
And exorcized it
Unwound his flawless DNA
And rewound it into what the world said was AOK
Forgot his own standard
And molded it to what the world said it should be
Forgetting that it was in itself what it ought to be
Coz it got him to where he got to be
In the first place

Let it never be said that this warrior sold out
That he used his gift
Not to honour its maker
But to gather perks and paper
And conformed to the culture that pop dictated
And ate at its table
And bobbed his head to its rhythm
And stepped to its beat
Forgetting He, who put him on his feet
In the first place

Let it never be said that this warrior sold out
And exchanged something as eternal as finding his place here
For something as fickle as crowding our space with his face here
Who forsook his inherited portion
And gave in to inherent lust for forward motion
Who gave up spiritual robes
For earthly clothes
And the signature of the King
For diamond rings and bling bling
Who refused to stand down and bow down
To He who accorded Him the right to throw down
Underground, low-down spoken truth
In the first place

Let it never be said that this warrior sold out
That this warrior bowed out,
That this warrior tapped out,
limped out, opted out,
Wore out, fizzled out, gave out
His anointed treasure in exchange for
A trifling pittance
An inevitable riddance
A fledgling semblance
Or a passing transience
Because everything was all good,
And long before he stepped onto the battle field
the battle had already been won
In the first place

Let it never be said that this warrior sold out
Let it never be said that this warrior sold out
Let it never be said that this warrior sold out

LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT

Filed under: Veews — by Vee @ 9:01 am

Hi y’ll. I was going through stuff I’ve written and stumbled upon this: An open letter to President Kibaki that I wrote last year at around this time. What amazes me is that a year later the issues are still basically the same. I should have posted it then, but better late than never.

Enjoy

REF: OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT KIBAKI

Dear Mr. President,

As a 24-year-old citizen living in the country that you rule, I find myself grossly disappointed in your government and all it stands for. In 2002 I rallied behind your coalition believing that my country was at the threshold of massive change from the previous governments that manipulated, lied and plundered from us. Instead when I open a newspaper or listen to news only to hear of the exact same things happening.

I read of people dying of drought while others die in floods; and I wonder why a government that came into power with so many promises can’t find a way to marry the two situations and save the precious lives of Kenyans.

I read of millions if not billions being spent on buying luxury cars when that money can be put together to create Small & Medium Enterprise funding for youths under the age of thirty. By giving young people a chance to fend for themselves business-wise, your government won’t have to shove them into the backstreets, or tear down their kiosks on the roadside. If the price to pay for a cleaner city is disillusioning people who are only trying to make an honest living, then it’s not worth it. As so long as people don’t have options to fall back on, then we’ll continue to see the running battles between the local government and hawkers. So at this point I venture the question: Where are those 500,000 jobs a year?

To hear of families being evicted from their homes all across the country either by violent raids, famine or for being squatters is sad. There has to be an alternative as to where they can go otherwise such acts just add to the desperate poverty levels that are already biting this country. Fourteen people dying under tons of rubble is not something to smile at either. These were men (and women) just trying to feed, clothe and shelter their families. Must we always wait for a catastrophe to happen before we take action in protecting the lives of our countrymen?

I am tired of hearing about scandals that were or never were. If your government is indeed innocent, why are they huddling behind closed-door meetings trying to form alliances or come up with solutions? If Anglo leasing is but a figment of our imagination, why is there new evidence constantly popping up to prove otherwise? Politics has taken up so much of this country’s time that everything else has been left to the dogs. It’s time for the love of politics to be sacrificed for the wellbeing of Kenyans.

I am not blaming you for everything that goes wrong in Kenya, but I feel that someone must take responsibility otherwise why do we need a government at all? I believe that it will take many years and back breaking hard work before we are up on our own two feet; but it does not help that we seem to be taking more steps back than forward.

We come from a heritage that respected the elders in a community. If the rest of the Kenyan youth start loosing faith in our leaders we have then lost a crucial part of ourselves. Therefore, please make quick amends and return to us the government and hope that we had in 2002. We’ve already lost three years; let’s not waste the next two.

SHORT NIGHTS

Filed under: Vee World — by Vee @ 7:52 am

It’s official people! The nights are shorter! I came to this scientifically back information by the mere fact that I just close my eyes one minute & suddenly my alarm goes off in the next. Initially, I suspect that my phone was playing tricks on me or even worse had started dying on me. I thought my precious Sony Ericsson (the official mobile phone of the latest Bond movie – Casino Royale) was no functioning properly! But I digress - the nights are indeed shorter.

Which leads me to my next discovery that my brain (subconscious) in its bid to ensure I sleep longer is currently showing some really dramatic action dreams of late. Topics such as Saving Private June and Behind June’s Gates have been premiering. I’ve even been waking up from these dreams, only to continue them as soon as I put my head back on the pillow.

For instance, today morning I found myself dangling from one edge of my 5×6 bed, head hanging back and hands in battle pose! All this so that I am captivated by my dreams enough to ignore that alarm clock that’s been on for the passed 5 mins!

I tell you it’s a government conspiracy all this alarm clocks going off early and award winning dreams!

KENYA’S WAYFORWARD: CAN ANYONE BE PRESIDENT?

Filed under: Quotes — by Vee @ 2:52 pm

Can Kenya rise to be the sort of country where anybody can rise to be president irrespective of their tribe or family background as long as they can add value and bring badly required integrity to the office?

A MAYO JAR & TWO CUPS OF COFFEE

Filed under: Quotes — by Vee @ 6:12 am

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee when things in your life seem almost too much to Handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he Wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise Jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the Golf balls. He then asked the students again if the Jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured It into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was Full. The students responded with an unanimous “Yes.”

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from Under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. “Now,” said the professor as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your Life.

The golf balls are the important things—your Family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions–and if everything else was Lost and only they remained, your life would still be Full.  The pebbles are the other things that matter like your Job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else–the small stuff. “If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and Energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you. “Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf Balls first–the things that really matter. Set your Priorities. The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. “I’m Glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of Cups of coffee with a friend.”
