SPIRIT DEFLATED!!!

Just one of those days, when the warm breeze comes through the office window; and I smell a familiar scent in the air - my skin tingles - as I realize I miss Malaysia…

WHAT’s YOUR VIEW?

Filed under: Vee World — by Vee @ 10:06 am

“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.” Anaïs Nin

Just this weekend, someone commented on how the above statement isn’t true. At first I had a knee jerk reaction where I was about to go all out on them - then I remembered that my knee jerk reactions, lead to heated unnecessary debates that lead me to lose my temper that make my face flare in pimples!!!! – Therefore, I promptly changed my mind, decided to ponder then blog it on Monday.

Personally, I think that statement is very true. My view is how I see something, while; your view is how you see the very same thing.

If we don’t see things as we are…then why is it called My/Your/Our Perspective (a particular evaluation of a situation or facts, especially from one person’s point of view)

Sometime back a guy friend of mine and I were debating on how men & women see (visually) things differently… so the quest was to look at one spot at the same time and say what one saw (the spot in question was the (old) Safaricom House). I saw the lovely well made up lady on the billboard that was on the side of the building… while he saw the eight satellite dishes that were on top of the building! I went like, “What dishes!?” Anyway, he won the debate.

But it’s not about being a guy or a girl this time round, it’s about what you are, what you are going through and how you are dealing with what you are going through that will determine how you see things the way you do; as opposed to the way I do.

Nowadays, I see things in a less impatient way than I did, let’s say two years ago; it always dawns because now I’m loosing my temper less and less (or rather I avoid things that might make me snap). Let’s say I’m having a bad day and the person I’m waiting for is late - I think “Urgh! They are so inconsiderate!” to which effect I will treat them impatiently; but if I’m having a nice day and someone’s late… I think “Hope something isn’t wrong…”

I’m trying to have more and more of the latter… but that’s just because I’m also trying to change what I am on the inside… Things work best from the inside out. How I am inside… affects how I view/take things on the outside…

VALENTINES (no red roses) DAY

Filed under: Vee World — by Vee @ 9:24 am

Who’s with me on this one? I was passing a florist today morning and there were all these red, pink, white & yellow roses in buckets!

But what of the other flowers? Aren’t they made by God too? Aren’t they pretty!? Don’t they make our lives all nice like the sunny Sunflower!? Or the lovely Lilies, the dazzling dandlions!! What of the marvelous Morning Glory? I mean, come on these flowers are out there…

This coming Valentines day…I say we break the red rose tradition, use and apreciate the other flowers as well… I for one would love a bunch of Sunflowers & Baby’s Breath!!!!

BLUE SMUDGES

Filed under: Veotry — by Vee @ 6:43 am

The second installment in The Quarterly Color Series - BLUE SMUDGES - is finally here!!!!!

The Color Series is an intiative of Al Kags that started out with Gray Spots: The Anthology of Life.

Cleary, the series has grown a great pair of Kenyan legs and has taken off like Paul Tergat on the Standard Chartered Marathon (although I’ve been informed that he has never run at this Marathon). This is evident by the numerous number of submissions of over 20 submissions this time round; which we appreciate all the poets for.

Therefore, we encourage you to read, enjoy, share, republish whatever they want to do with it they can; but always acknowledge the poets…

The next installment is called Red Streaks… it’s about all things raunchy, rough, rugged and raw… we’ll be sending a call for submissions really soon, so get your minds stewing on possible haaaaat poems…. There is also a Swahili Series coming up so all those poems that were hidden in the archives of your swahili soul can come out now.

Have a great one and think about this - “I look to the future because that’s where I’m going to spend the rest of my life.” ~ George Burns~

DETOX DIET (UPDATE)

Filed under: Vee World — by Vee @ 1:00 pm

Ooookey so apart from surviving the passed two days with me lying to myself that I was detoxing… read starving… I finally found a lovely three day recipe (from a professional - read True Love); and even better is that Mum has agreed to suffer along with me - we can add that to the portfolio of our ever increasing methods of bonding! So apart from the major shopping needed to be done tomorrow including getting a juicer (finally) and a few containers to carry the gross liquids that I’m gonna subject myself to… everything looks hunky-dorry. I have one qualm though… they went and picked all the things I love-to-hate… oats, pumpkin, terere (some green herb/veggie that sprouts after rains) and a whole host of things that I just cringe at the mere thought… I mean Carrot Juice??? Come on now, and I know some person will leave a optimistic comment as to how that is just a yummy thing to consume!!! Anyway I’ll post the recipe as soon as I finish the diet…and basically review it… stay tuned…meanwhile… all the best to me and my decendants as we undertake th journey to better health…for now I’m headed straight to a place with a greasy, sloppy cheese burger… yum…

CHANGE OF CLOTHES

Filed under: Vee World — by Vee @ 10:28 am

Yeah people I’m a girl so your bound to see all the clothes in the wordpress.com wardrobe thanks to my ever changing moods!

I’ve been brooding over something of late, can’t pinpoint what it is exactly and I don’t want to force it out of my subconscience before it’s full cooked. When I go get to know what it is… you’ll be the 1st-2nd-3rd to know. Meanwhile, keep me in your prayers.

I wrote Re-Introducing Myself a few weeks back (before I took my much needed hiatus) and as I re-read it I realize I was frustrated and almost on the verge of picking a fight.

So when I saw this new look I was like YEAH! I’ve been wanting to change my over-all look - and not been sure of what I wanna delve into next. I’m a true blue girl and jeans will still remain a core part of my attire… this blog look got me thinking… I might want to look into the Mother Earth Style… lots of flowing linens & cottons, dresses, skirts - orange, brown, white, creme, red… sandals… head wraps… big ethnic earings…seed braclets…. I know that sounds like the gypsy look that’s hit town & moved on… but I like getting into style when I’m good and ready…

KENYAN BLOGGERS OYAA!!!

Filed under: Vee World — by Vee @ 7:46 am

I started blogging last year and it was this crazy and exciting phenomena for me. I stopped during my final semester in campus due to the intensity of the period and also the coming back home senario. I started up again this year, moved from Blogspot.com to WordPress.com… It’s been fun, intense, boring, educating… but the most exciting thing for me to do is add one more person to the blogging community. To know we are growing in leaps & bounds right here in Kenya makes me smile. We went for a Writer’s Summit a couple of months back and it was an experience seeing people learn about Blogging the disucssion was lead by Potash (blogger extrodinaire) and I was proud to be there first and foremost as a blogger then as a poet. So I would like to welcome Ufarisi and Creative Ventures to the community… many more are on their way, so I urge us (current bloggers) to set a solid foundation of standards… and take Kenyan blogging to it’s potential heights.

OF LUOS & LONG-DISTANCE LOVE

Filed under: Vee World — by Vee @ 12:14 pm

A friend is currently trying to address the issue of the Luo & Kikuyu love connection with fate & history. When did the differences arise? Why do we love-to-hate each other so much? Why can’t the sons & daughters of the Victoria lakeside live in perfect peace and harmony with the descendants of Gikuyu & Mumbi - off the slopes of Mount Kenya? Is it possible for the charm of the Doluo and the business acumen of the Kikuyu can work hand in hand in the economical, politically & romantic arenas of life for the benefit of the country? How many marital homesteads have been torn apart by the mere mention of such unions?

Kenya has had a long history in this context starting with the forever-contentious Wambui & S.M Otieno saga in the early days of our beloved nation… Join this raging debate on Kumekucha and add your comment to sizzling hot pot.

COLLISION UPDATE

Filed under: Vee World — by Vee @ 11:21 am

A few short months ago I had a collision with someone and it’s been a dramatic rollercoaster ride so far. I now believe that we collided so hard - we left some serious dents on each other… to the extent that we are currently under the other’s skin… At times irritating the hell out each other and other times laughing at the things that come our way. All the while learning & appreciating what the other is going through in life.

So to him - My Collider - I salute you and pray we can maintain this precarious relationship… hopefully one day be great friends…
