No no no I’m not asking where the rock group Green Day is? Rather wssssuup with that Words & Pictures event called “Green Day” on Saturday??? Who was there? Yup it was tight!
I’ll sum it up like this. It was a day about the environment. Graffiti artists doing their thing on the walls, jewelry artists, t-shirt designers, rappers, dancers, poets, thinkers, metal recyclers, eco-watchers & wanainchi in one space (British Council car park) talking & thinking about the environment.
I don’t need a day to remind me to take care of the environment: I try to do so each and every single day. So what was so great about this well spent afternoon? Simple, the people who came did so with a purpose… they radiated dedication to themselves & what they do; respect of others & their surroundings. This vybe gave the whole event some jazz! It was great meeting people my age concerned about real issues… in our own style & own language.
Environmental day shouldn’t be just about not littering, smoking and all that. It should be about how you treat yourself and the people around you. They are our environment and if you can’t be bothered about the person next to you: About their opinions, their passions… then how can you even have the energy to take care of of all the trash around you?
In this country where negative vybe keeps on being dispensed by our politicians, our media - then it would be a high time we start feeding each other with positive, intelligent, thought & action provoking information. About ourselves, where we are at, where we wanna be and what we want Kenya to be known for.

I’m beginning to love them. Currently enjoying their love for the arts in two ways! One is through them providing a location for the Kwani? writers forum. The other is location and support for WAPI which I attended for the first time this Sat. They also allowed graffitti artists to use the parking lot walls as canvas. I think that will add alot of inspiration to people who go there and also the artists themselves. What your story?
